Maccabia broke this week as we are writing this newsletter, all we can hear are team cheers and laughter. The campers were all given a t-shirt in their team colors, and have already played team games and participated in the super fun swim meet. The weather, food and activities have continued to be fabulous, and the campers are all having an incredible time here at Camp Kadimah.
July 17 was a special day in the Kochot section, because we did something that Kochot rarely does. We went on a sectional day off! Bright and early in the morning, we ate breakfast and loaded three buses and headed to Lunenburg, Nova Scotia to visit the Atlantic Fisheries Museum. This museum was both fun and educational as the campers and staff learned about the heritage and importance of lobster fishing in Atlantic Canada. There were aquariums, and touch-tanks that housed many types of fish and marine life that allowed for the children to get up close and personal with them.
We then boarded a fishing boat where we learned how to trap and catch lobsters. After an in-depth analysis of the inner working of the lobster trap, the campers were able to handle and take pictures with the lobsters and crabs that were caught. After our adventures in Lunenburg, we headed towards Rizzers Beach, where the kids got a chance to jump in the Atlantic waves and play in the sand. We enjoyed several hours of the beach, with lots of frisbee and football tossing. After a long, jam-packed day, we returned to camp, showered our sandy bodies and crashed in our beds. We had a wonderful day and can’t wait to see what the summer has in store for us next!
We cannot believe that camp is flying by so quickly, and that Visitor’s Day is in a few days. The campers are counting down the days until they see you, and we as well are looking forward to meeting you all next Sunday. We hope you are having a great summer, and will see you soon.

Love Mikey and Rachel

As for the rest of the camp, Kochot went on a trip away from camp to the fisheries museum and the beach followed by a big dinner of their choice. The Gibbies went on a camping trip to the Bay of Fundy and the Zoo. And the Goshies had an ice cream party with Machar. Also this week we had a chance to enjoy the company of many visiting alumni.
As you all know by now it’s Maccabia! It was broken this morning with colored T-shirts on all the cloths lines. This means that the CITs left this morning on their trip to New Brunswick for the next five days. At camp we’ve been playing team games with the swim meet this afternoon, followed by informal march pass and a camp wide game, of capture the flag for tonight. Everyone’s very, excited, energetic and busy cheering for their team color!
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_Z1hd_0-VpU4/SIN5Mc5LD8I/AAAAAAAAAAs/3q5K-4J3Kdg/s320/IMG_2950.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5225153247501291458" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_Z1hd_0-VpU4/SIN5NLiKrPI/AAAAAAAAAA0/pMjjtpKEw5E/s320/DSC01268.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5225153260021263602" />

Shalom from Camp Machar!
This summer could not be going better! We have been spending our days outside enjoying the fantastic sunny weather. Our Macharnicks are loving their choice peulot, such as a weekly Machar Post, daily waterskiing, and sport tournaments. As well, each camper has been involved with many creative projects in their respective Va’ads, such as construction, Tarbut, and Tikkun Olam. We just returned from Hityashvut, which is our sectional two- day colour war and camping trip. The Oceanside campsite includes a swimming pool, a cave hike, and a perfect opportunity for sectional bonding. We are in the midst of learning our section song, and the campers are anxiously awaiting our presentation to the rest of camp. Evening programs such as McFlag, Escape from Alcatraz, and our original Israeli Dance Work-Out Videos have kept Macharnicks excited and busy. Tonight is the Machar talent show where the campers will have an opportunity to show off their various talents and skills in hopes of participating in the big camp-wide talent show. Shabbat is approaching, and Macharnicks will have a chance to play in their house league teams, enjoy various water sports, and relax before a packed week of intense and fun programs.
Until next week...

From our home away from home,
Camp Machar

Gibbie Oneg was great- a fun parable about the Hagana and making their way over to the Machar side of the bridge, just like the Goshies.
We sang and danced and have a terrific time!
Shabbat was peaceful and beautiful, with a special guest from Canadian Young Judaea doing special programming for staff, CITs as well as gib and gosh.
Chabad Lubavitch of the Maritimes also joined us to do a special program with the Goshrim section making havdallah candles and spice boxes.
Houseleagues are going strong for Kochot and Machar, and we spent the day relaxing at the waterfront.
Machar programming is going exceedingly well, and the first edition of the “Machar Post” was published to rave reviews by the section and camp.
CITs have held their official town council session with the director, and are on their way to working on their special projects to make Kadimah better than ever before with new ideas and that special CIT spirit.

Already we've come to the end of the first week of camp and so much has happened. The first Shabbat was amazing, as Shabbat always is a camp. After services and a great Shabbat meal was the senior staff oneg and singing and dancing of old favorites. Saturday was filled with basket ball, soft ball and volleyball house leagues and the return of cinnamon buns, the best breakfast at camp.
Saturday night was our first social, the theme was "tight and bright" a lot of people went all out in ridiculous but fun outfits, check out the website for lots of pictures.
With the our ropes course being built by Sunday the new Challenge peulah became much more interesting with all the campers excited to try it out. The last few days have played out as usual, everyone is getting back into the swing of things and trying to drink as much water as possible in the beautiful, hot weather we've been having since the campers arrived.
Wednesday morning was Haganah Day, a program that divides up the campers and staff into "families" that are trying to get to "Israel" (or from the Chairmans sports field to the Auxiliary). Everyone had a great time, but only a few families made it to "Israel" to try and keep it more realistic. That afternoon we had carnival day which included apple bobbing, face painting, prizes and a bounce castle!
Thursday was Israel day, celebrating 60 years with sectional programing about the state and delicious felafels for lunch. Right now we are getting ready for our second shabbat and all looking forward to a gibbie oneg!

The best day of the year, the first day of camp! Yesterday was filled with old friends, new faces and promises of the best summer yet. The first buses arrived at 11:30 with all the campers safely here by 2. After lunch there was time to catch up, unpack and swim deeps. In the evening was our traditional Canada Day celebrations which include singing, dancing, a giant cake for Canada and even our own fireworks show.
This morning we had regular programing followed by picture day in the afternoon. We are currently getting ready for our first big buddy BBQ of the summer.
Everyone is very excited to be back at camp and looking forward to an amazing summer!
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_Z1hd_0-VpU4/SGv3OG4pGVI/AAAAAAAAAAc/_k0xmiRjs04/s320/DSC00132.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218536414977268050" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_Z1hd_0-VpU4/SGv3PMct_9I/AAAAAAAAAAk/qkhxuggiD0k/s320/DSC00219.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5218536433650630610" />

Today was the first full day of camp for general staff. Activities included fire training in the morning, boat moving in the afternoon and of course our first shabbat of the summer.
Fire training took a little over three hours, and consisted of movies, slide shows, a lecture and my personal favourite fire extinguisher training. Meaning that all staff at Camp Kadimah can identify Class A, B, and C fires and know which extinguishers to use in order to safely put them out.
The boat moving is self explanatory, all boats were successfully moved from the buildings into the water without any damage, I wish I could say the same for our general staff who were cut, bitten and stung in the process.
Services went well with new tunes to old prayers being tried out, dancing followed by a delicious shabbat meal.
Camp is empty and quit at the moment and everyone is anticipating the arrival of our CITs and campers for 2008. We're all very excited to begin another amazing summer!

<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_Z1hd_0-VpU4/SGWSSzZfQ-I/AAAAAAAAAAM/b5SgRIo4W3w/s320/DSC00045.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216736595111003106" />
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_Z1hd_0-VpU4/SGWSTMlJS7I/AAAAAAAAAAU/ICL84DwBi3c/s320/DSC00070.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5216736601870781362" />

Welcome to the Camp Kadimah blog!

Well, we're not quite there yet, but we are moving the office down to camp on Wednesday, June 18th.
